Art, Culture and Worldviews Lectures

 All Lectures are 45 minute Multimedia presentations(utilizing Powerpoint, film clips, etc.) with a suggested 15 minute Q & A after the lecture

1) The Bezalel Principle: Art, Taking Back What’s Ours: An in-depth examination of art and the artist in the Bible. Learn how important the arts are to God and how the church can rediscover a vital understanding of beauty.

2) Boundaries: From Frustration to Freedom: Are rules confining or freeing? This lecture discusses the fundamentals of the creative process and what constraints if any are put on us as Christians as we create.

3) The Daniel Strategy: When to Compromise in the Arts & Entertainment Industry: Using Daniel as our example, we examine how to navigate in an industry hostile to our faith and beliefs without compromising our walk with God.

4) Art: What’s Love Got To Do With It: God’s commands to love Him and our neighbor are explored in their relationship to art.

5) Beyond Entertainment: Worldview and Redemptive Storytelling: How worldviews inform and influence us in entertainment and how redemption is communicated through art.

6) The Arts & The Church: Can There Ever Be Unity?: Many believe that neither the church nor the arts can be unified in a vision of glorifying God. Are the church and the arts enemies or allies? This lecture explores their historical relationship and proposes a radical relationship for the future.

7) Redeeming Culture: The “How To” Guide: An exploration of how the Cultural Mandate for Christians informs how they live their lives and how God calls them to redeem culture.

8) Postmodernism: A Gift to the Church: As each culture is influenced by the philosophy of the day, this lecture discusses how we’ve moved from a modernist culture to a postmodern culture and beyond. Focusing on how to maximize the benefits of Postmodernism to bring people back to the gospel.

9) The Bible: Is it rated R? With so much controversy over sex and violence in film and TV and the increasing interest in the supernatural in literature and the media, the questions arise: What can I watch? What should I let my kids watch/ read? Does the Bible address any of these issues? Here’s a practical look at discerning entertainment choices for you and your family by understanding how sin is expressed in the arts.

10) What is a Worldview? This lecture explains the basics of understanding worldviews, what they are & how they impact life.

11) How to Minister to Artists 101: Artists are a beautiful and unique people group loved by God. This lecture teaches how to connect, evangelize and disciple artists.

12) Building a Christian Pipeline into the Arts & Entertainment Industry: An exciting discussion on the future of Christians in the arts & entertainment industry.

1) Rediscovering the Beauty of Redemption: Ecclesiastes 3:11, This sermon challenges us to celebrate not only “The True”, “The Good”, but also “The Beautiful”.

2) He Gave Us Stories: Matthew 13:34, Seeing how God uses stories to inspire and instruct.

3) Bezalel: An Artist Ordained by God: Exodus 31, The first person filled with the spirit of God was an artist. Who was this man and why did God give him such a legacy?

4) Creation & Creativity: God’s Design: Genesis 1&2, What does creation tell us about Creativity & Design?

5) Creativity, Imagery & Idolatry: Genesis 1, Exodus 20 & 31, What does the Bible really say about making Images, Idols and Creativity?

Technical Needs:

Projector and sound system that can facilitate PowerPoint, and audio & video clips. Speaker utilizes a laptop with remote control access up 75 ft. from presentation platform. Client provides a table and trustworthy person to sell books, tapes and materials Joel brings.

Scheduling:

Due to Joel’s busy schedule, it is best for him to do all lectures in one day (unless you book 6 lectures, then he will stay for 2 days). He needs to fly in the day before and fly home the night of the last lecture or very early the next morning(if the last lecture is an evening lecture).
